MAKERS - ARTISTS - DESIGNERS - ENTERPRISE

MAKERS - ARTISTS - DESIGNERS - ENTERPRISEMAKERS - ARTISTS - DESIGNERS - ENTERPRISEMAKERS - ARTISTS - DESIGNERS - ENTERPRISE

The associated galleries of EAST are proud to present the next iteration of Roath Gallery Weekend (RGW), the third edition.

The RGW, which runs 09-11 May, will see a varied and vibrant programme - with late night openings and special events scheduled throughout the weekend.

The galleries have coordinated events to complement their current exhibition - which range from photography, textile, painting, print and craft. The Friday will also see many venues staying open later than usual - and a number of exhibition launches, at Cardiff M.A.D.E, Celf Gallery and g39 - perfect for an evening of gallery-hopping.

Mae holl orielau cysylltiedig EAST yn falch iawn o gyhoeddi Penwythnos Orielau’r Rhath, y drydedd rhifyn.

Gwel penwythnos y 09 - 11 o Fai rhaglen o weithgareddau - gyda oriau agor estynedig a digwyddiadau arbennig wedi’u hamserlennu.

Mae nifer o’r orielau wedi cynllunio digwyddiadau i gyd-fynd â’u harddangosfeydd - sydd yn cynnwys ffotograffiaeth, tecstiliau, paentiadau, print a chrefft. Bydd nifer o’r orielau ar agor tan yn hwyr ar y nos Wener - a nifer o arddangosfeydd yn cael eu lansio y noson hwnnw, yn Cardiff M.A.D.E, Celf Gallery a g39 - amser perffaith i fynd o naill le i’r llall.

On the Saturday, join an open workshop at PAM/MiR, exploring different techniques with textiles. Enjoy price reductions in the Ffotogallery bookshop throughout the weekend, while experiencing the work of young photographer, Audrey Albert. Once again, the focus of the Makers Gallery is on the gallery's skilled artisans - with pottery, jewellery and glass on display. There is valuable opportunities to meet artists - the celebrated Shani Rhys James at Celf Gallery among her new exhibition, The Golden Echo; and the Albany Gallery's exhibiting artists, Francisco Centofanti and Lara Smith. Take the opportunity to hear Annie Morgan Suganami discuss her latest paintings while being guided around her exhibition, Life Lines at TEN.

In g39, there are two exhibitions to view, including a show of work by CSAD fine art course students, which is open only for the weekend. In the evening, spring is celebrated at Cardiff M.A.D.E, with singing, folk tales and refreshments hosted by Dominique Fester. The various events continue over the Sunday - live music, a jewellery workshop and refreshments in several locations. This is the third collaborative event from the EAST galleries - following the success of the inaugural weekend held in May 2024 and a winter edition held last November. What a way to reflect the active, creative and inclusive identity of Roath and what a great excuse to spend a culture-filled weekend!

Ar y Sadwrn, ymunwch â gweithdy agored yn PAM/MiR, yn archwilio gwahanol dechnegau â tecstiliau. Mwynhewch ostygniadau pris yn siop lyfrau Ffotogallery trwy gydol y penthwynos, tra’n profi arddangosfa arbennig ffotograffydd ifanc, Audrey Albert. Unwaith eto, ffocws Oriel Makers yw ar grefftwyr medrus yr oriel - gyda chrochenwaith, gewmwaith a gwydr i’w gweld. Mae cyfle gwerthfawr i gwrdd â artistiaid - yr enwog Shani Rhys James yn Celf Gallery ymysg ei harddangosfa newydd, The Golden Echo; ac artistiaid arddangosfa dau-berson yr Albany Gallery, Francisco Centofanti a Lara Smith. Bachwch ar y cyfle i glywed Annie Morgan Suganami yn trafod ei phaentiadau diweddaraf tra’n tywys o amgylch ei harddangosfa, Olion Bywyd yn TEN.

Yn oriel g39, ceir dwy arddangosfa gan gynnwys sioe o waith gan fyfyrwyr cwrs celfyddyd gain CSAD, a gynhelir dros y penwythnos yn unig. Gyda’r hwyr, dathlir y gwanwyn yn Cardiff M.A.D.E, gyda noson o ganu, chwedleuon gwerin a lluniaeth dan ofal Dominique Fester. Parha’r diwgyddiadau amrywiol dros y Sul - cerddoriaeth fyw, gweithdy gemwaith a lluniaeth mewn sawl lleoliad. Dyma drydedd ddigwyddiad cydweithredol orielau EAST – wedi llwyddiant ysgubol y benwythnos gyntaf o’r fath ym mis Mai 2024, â’r rhifyn gaeaf ym mis Tachwedd. Am ffordd i adlewyrchu hunaniaeth fywiog, greadigol y Rhath a pha esgus gwell i dreulio penwythnos llawn diwylliant!

'The Birds and The Bees' - Celebration of Spring with Songs & Stories (Sat 10.05.25)

Come and celebrate Spring with an evening of bawdy May Songs, and folk tales celebrating the rising sap, fertility and abundance of spring with singer-storyteller Dominique Fester.

Expect, laughter, silliness and to join in with a chorus or two to clear out those rusty wind pipes and bring a blush to the cheeks. This event will be gently and warmly participatory with the option of making and taking your own piece of corn craft home and the end.

All washed down with plenty of cheese and a glass of wine.

Patteh Embroidered Jewellery Workshop with Mitra Freeman (Sunday 11.05.25)

Join Mitra for a workshop embroidering felt hair grip or broach using the traditions of Iranian Patteh (پته). This traditional embroidery style from the southern province of Kerman (کرمان) has been handed down from mother to daughter and in Mitra's case handed down by her Grandmother, Mamanjan, a skilled Patteh embroiderer.

In this workshop you will learn how to embroider your very own eye shaped talisman hair clip or broach to ward off the “evil eye” known as Zakhm e Cheshm (چشم زخم) in Farsi.

The workshop will take place on Sunday the 11th of May from 10am to 1pm in Cardiff Made.
