Cardiff MADE is pleased to present ‘New Voices’ : two exhibitions highlighting new and exciting work produced by artists working in painting and lens based practices, with work developed via mentored programmes ‘Creative Steps’ and The Higgins Initiative supported by the Arts Council of Wales and in partnership with Elysium Gallery, Swansea.

This trio of artists have distinctive styles with crossovers in approach - exploring their own identity, through developing personas via painting to convey inner truths, and processing realities and experience which include loss, isolation and connection.
These artists each offer a different take on portraiture, as a means to question and reveal aspects of human experience, common to us all, through their own specific lens, embracing neurodiversity.
Thomas Evans is currently studying at The Royal College of Art on the postgraduate Fine Art MA, Mylo Elliott has a background in street art and Tracey McMaster lives and works in Swansea area with a concurrent exhibition Homebody, opening at Elysium Gallery Bar February 7th until 22 March.
Gwelwn arddull holl unigryw yng ngwaith pob un o’r tri artist hwn, ac eto mae yna unolrwydd yn y themâu gaiff eu harchwilio. Hunaniaeth, y datblygiad o ‘bersona’ drwy’r gwaith er mwyn amlygu gwirionedd mewnol yr unigolyn yn ogystal â phrosesu profiadau dwys megis colled, unigrwydd ac ymgysylltiad.
Mae’r artistiaid yn ymdrin â phortreadaeth mewn gwahanol ffyrdd ac yn ei ddefnyddio fel dull i gwestiynu ac amlygu agweddau o brofiad dynol. Profiadau sydd yn gyffredin i ni gyd, drwy eu lens arbennig nhw, gan groesawu niwroamrywiaeth.
Mae Thomas Evans yn astudio yng Ngholeg Brenhinol Celf ar MA olraddedig Celf Gain. Cefndir celf stryd sydd gan Mylo Elliott ac mi fydd yn cychwyn MA mewn darlunio yn Falmouth. Mae Tracey McMaster yn byw a gweithio yn Abertawe, ac mi fydd ei harddangosfa gydredol Homebody, yn agor ym mar Oriel Elysium o 7 Chwefror tan 22 Mawrth.
Artist Hip Hop yw Mylo, ac yn ei gasgliad fe welwn ganlyniad blwyddyn o greadigrwydd. O fewn ei argraffiadau ffigurol a thestunol edrychir Mylo ar ofodau cymunedol, rhwystrau anweledig ac ymwybyddiaeth gudd.
Trwy ei waith mae’r artist wedi creu ffenestr i'w fywyd, a’r profiad o edrych trwyddo yn eistedd rhywle rhwng realiti a chynrychiolaeth. Er bod y foment o gysylltiad a ganiatawyd gan y gwaith yn un fer, caiff y gwyliwr gipolwg ar fyd hollol wahanol.
Cafwyd lluniadau, argraffiadau a phaentiadau eu creu mewn cydweithrediad â’r artistiaid DR Beck Howson, Flow Maugran, ac Amelia Thomas. Mae’r gwaith yma yn cwmpasu dynesiad Mylo Elliot at gelf ac iechyd meddwl, ac yn bortread o newidiadau meddyliol ac ysbrydol.
Mylo is a Hip Hop artist and his collection is the context of a year's creativity. Mylo’s figurative and textual impressions are looking at shared space, invisible walls, and unspoken awareness.
The artist has created insights into his life, with departures from reality into representation. While the moment is only a brief connection, the viewer gets a suggestion of a different world altogether.
The paintings, prints and drawings are a collection created in collaboration with artists DR Beck Howson, Flow Maugran, and Amelia Thomas. The work covers Mylo Elliott’s approach to art and mental health, and is a depiction of a changing mentality and spirituality.

Ganwyd Tom Evans yn Barnet yn 1978 ac fe raddiodd gyda BA o Chelsea College of Arts yn 2000. Ar ôl gyrfa yn y diwydiant masnach greadigol ym Madrid, gan gynnwys ‘tech startups’, fe ddychwelodd i Dde Cymru i ail-sefydlu ei hun fel artist, gan ddilyn yn olion traed ei linach deuluol.
Yn 2022, fe astudiodd ar lein gyda The Royal Drawing School, derbyniodd gyllid gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru fel ymarferydd niwroamrywiol, ac fe gymerodd rhan yn Rhaglen Cyfatebiad Turps Art School. Gyda chefnogaeth gan Gelfyddydau Rhyngwladol Cymru fe ddaeth i ben a phreswyliadau yn Lisbon yn PADA a Mono. Ar hyn o bryd mae Tom yn dilyn cwrs MA yn yr RCA yn Llundain.
Yn ei waith ffigurol, drwy gyfrwng paentio ac arlunio, mae Tom yn archwilio natur ymgysylltiad rhyngbersonol a’i ddeallusrwydd o hunaniaeth. Canfuwyd ei fod yn niwroamrywiol yn ei 40au cynnar ond drwy gydol ei oes mae Tom wedi defnyddio ei gelf fel ffordd o ddeall a phrosesu ei emosiynau.
Tom Evans, born in Barnet in 1978, graduated with a BA from Chelsea College of Arts in 2000. After a career in commercial creative industries, including tech startups, he returned from Madrid in 2017 to reestablish himself as an artist in South Wales, reflecting his family heritage.
In 2022, Tom studied online with The Royal Drawing School, secured Arts Council Wales funding as a neurodiverse practitioner, and participated in Turps Art School’s Correspondence Programme. He completed residencies in Lisbon at Pada and mono, supported by a Wales Arts International grant. Tom is now pursuing an MA at the RCA in London.
Tom's figurative work, primarily in painting and drawing, explores human connection and self-understanding. Diagnosed as neurodiverse at nearly 40, he uses art as a way to navigate and process his experiences.

His Cardiff Made exhibition features two self-portraits: one revisiting his tech startup past, reclaiming a narrative he feels was lost, and the other reflecting on his present self, shaped by life’s challenges. Other works reinterpret vintage portraits sourced from a Lisbon flea market, reanimating past moments to explore themes of memory, loss, and mortality.

Tom says, "This work examines the passage of time, identity, and the power of art to reframe personal and collective history. I'm thrilled to exhibit alongside two other artists supported by Arts Council Wales, celebrating resilience and creativity."
Cyflwynir cyfres newydd o baentiadau gan Tracey McMaster o dan y teitl “Homebody”, rhwng dwy arddangosfa gydredol yn MADE ac yn y bar yn oriel Elysium. Yn “Homebody” mae’r artist yn ystyried newidiadau yn ei safbwynt drwy’r themâu o fod, perthyn, colled a’r corff.
Tracey McMaster presents a new series of paintings titled “Homebody” spread across two concurrent exhibitions, at MADE and in the bar at Elysium gallery. ‘Homebody’ reflects on the artist’s shifting perspectives through themes of being, belonging, loss and the body.
Mae Tracey yn disgrifio ei phroses fel un awtomatig, gan chwarae a phaent drwy adeiladu haenau, gwasgu, adeiladu ac arbrofi gydag arwynebeddau gan eu hymdrochi mewn dŵr môr neu eu gadael tu allan yn y glaw.

Tracey describes her painting process as being automatic, playing with paint through layering, mashing, building and experimenting with surfaces by dipping them in sea water or leaving them out in the rain.

Tracey’s works are often figurative, she explains; “I think about my relationship to others, the strength of those feelings and how they can be both anchored by place and time and yet also float. I explore these moments of reconnection in my paintings, to self, to subconscious, to others.”
